Barbara L. Bakus, DO, ABIHM is a graduate of Western University of Health Sciences in California, 1997. She then completed an Internship at South Pointe Hospital through the Ohio University College of Osteopathic Medicine, in 1999. In 2002 she became board certified in Family Practice and Osteopathic Manipulative Treatment through the American Osteopathic Board of Family Physicians. In 2002 she completed her Family Medicine residency at South Pointe Hospital through the Ohio University College of Osteopathic Medicine.
She spent three years in Switzerland due to her husband's job relocation. While there, she started a medical newsletter for her children’s school, St. Georges International School. This newsletter was titled DR. FYI and it described the diagnosis, symptoms, and treatments of such school illnesses as wound care, head lice, mononucleosis, etc. In addition she maintained her Medical license by completing all CME requirements for both the state of Ohio and the American Osteopathic Association. She also traveled to the USA once a year for Medical conferences to gain CMEs, and to keep up on her medical knowledge.
Dr. Bakus returned to Chagrin Falls, Ohio and in November 2006 she began the Helms Medical Acupuncture course for Physicians through the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA. In May of 2007 she completed the examinations and practical study. Now she is board eligible for Medical Acupuncture. In December of 2008, she completed the Integrative Medicine Fellowship Program through the University of Arizona School of Medicine. This program was founded and directed by Dr. Andrew Weil, renowned author and Harvard Physician and Botanist.
Currently, she works as a Clinical Director at the Fleet Medical Center at South Pointe Hospital, a Cleveland Clinic Health System Hospital. She has been working there since May 31, 2007. Dr. Bakus’ vision is to develop an Integrative Medicine Center in her local community of Chagrin Falls, Ohio. She is competent that her skills as a board certified Family Practitioner, Osteopathic Physician and Medical Acupuncturist, and certified Integrative Medicine Physician will provide a unique center for healing and wellness for all types of patients while developing a new paradigm for future medical practices.
